When half is as big as any whole!

It is so wonderful to get to witness the growth of this amazing little boy! His smiling, his jabbering, playing with his toes, although he spent a month in the hospital, he seems to be quickly catching up or doing normal baby activities.  He may physically have "half a heart" but it is quite obvious he lives with all his heart!

Here is a little video taken on Aug. 26, 2011....

Look how much his scar is fading! Unfortunately, it is less than a month
before we have to endure surgery #2.

Look who found their toes!!  New toys to play with and suck on!

Normal baby stuff and the Mic-Key Button

As summer moves along, everything with Hunter is normal baby stuff! It's so hard to comprehend that just a few months ago our world was upside down and did not know where we would be today. All of his doctor appointments, check ups etc., have been great!  He is growing and developing as he should, see for yourself!

Big SMILES!!

Precious Little Foot!

EDUCATION NOTE: It is not unusual for heart babies to have difficulties with nursing.  It requires a lot of energy, they have to interupt breathing to suck, then swallow.  Because this can be so taxing, it is easy for babies to aspirate at feeding. Many times to ensure they are receiving proper nutrition a NG(nasal gastric) tube is placed early on to help, but as baby grows, it will be likely that it will be pulled out.  Hunter did this once while still in the hospital, so it was decided to give him a Mic-key button. He received his a few days before discharge.  He will probably keep this until after his third surgery, at approximately 20 months of age.
The small white tube with the white tape is the ng tube
After Hunter pulled out his gt tube it was replaced with a Mic-key button feeding system, the white button with the tube attached at his belly:

As soon as he is strong enough and swallow studies prove there is no chance of aspiration, he will be allowed to take a bottle.  The mic-key button will remain in place as back-up, just in case he needs any nutritional assistance.

Grandma Having Hunter Withdrawal

June 2011

I must say, it was quite convenient and nice being able to see little Hunter everyday. Especially when all I had to do was walk across the parking lot to the hospital next door! So Hunter going home was wonderful, but I have to travel about 40 minutes to see him at home. :(  I definitely missed being able to see him on a daily basis, but Mommy and Daddy helped smooth it over by sending me pictures by phone.  Of course, I won't let too many days go by where I don't see the little guy in person!   Here is the first of many examples of my little buddy growing and changing:

So Far Behind...

May 21-May 24, 2011

I am so far behind in telling Hunter's story! In order to be able to post the more current, fun things,
that are happening, I am going to post pictures, say a few things about them and then go back at a later date to add more details.  If you are trying to follow me and it is not making sense, I'm apologize and will try to fill in the spaces later!
